Important: These Terms constitute a binding legal agreement. If you do not agree to any part, please do not use our services or proceed with admission.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting an application form, paying fees, enrolling in any program, or accessing the SUNAV Maritime Academy website, you ("Student," "Applicant," or "User") confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms. These Terms apply to all students, parents/guardians, applicants, and website visitors.
2. Admission Policy
- Admission to all programs at SUNAV Maritime Academy is subject to the eligibility criteria prescribed by the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), Mumbai.
- All documents submitted at the time of admission must be genuine. Submission of false, forged, or misleading documents will result in immediate cancellation of admission without any refund.
- The academy reserves the right to verify all certificates and documents with issuing authorities.
- Admission is not confirmed until fees are paid and all required documents are submitted and verified.
- The academy reserves the right to deny admission or cancel enrollment at any stage if it is found that the applicant does not meet the eligibility criteria or has suppressed material information.
- Students must maintain medical fitness as prescribed by DG Shipping throughout the duration of the course.
3. Fee Policy
- Fee Payment: All fees are payable as per the schedule communicated at the time of admission. Fees must be paid by the due date to avoid cancellation of enrollment.
- Refund Policy: Fees once paid are non-refundable except in the following circumstances:
- If the academy cancels the batch or program.
- If the student is found ineligible due to failure of the academy's verification process (errors on the academy's part).
- Withdrawal: Students who withdraw from the program after the commencement of classes will not be entitled to any fee refund. A pro-rated refund may be considered only at the academy's sole discretion.
- Fee Revision: The academy reserves the right to revise fees with prior notice. Existing enrolled students will be given at least 30 days' notice of any fee revision.
- Defaulters: Students with outstanding fees may be barred from attending classes, examinations, and receiving certificates until dues are cleared.
4. Code of Conduct
All students of SUNAV Maritime Academy are expected to maintain the highest standards of discipline and professional conduct, consistent with the traditions of the maritime profession. The following are strictly prohibited:
- Ragging, bullying, or any form of physical or mental harassment of fellow students, staff, or visitors.
- Possession or consumption of alcohol, narcotics, or any controlled substances on campus.
- Use of mobile phones or electronic devices during classes, examinations, or practical sessions unless permitted.
- Damage to academy property. Students will be held financially liable for any wilful damage.
- Disrespectful behaviour towards faculty, staff, or fellow students.
- Any form of academic dishonesty including cheating, plagiarism, or impersonation.
- Unauthorised absence from classes or practical training sessions.
Violation of the code of conduct may result in suspension, expulsion, or referral to appropriate authorities.
5. Academic Regulations
- Students must comply with all academic regulations set by DG Shipping and the academy's curriculum framework.
- Examinations will be conducted as per the schedule prescribed. Absence from examinations without a valid medical certificate or approved leave will result in an "absent" grade.
- Re-examination is permitted only as per the academy's re-examination policy and applicable DG Shipping guidelines.
- All course materials, syllabi, and training programs are subject to change in accordance with DG Shipping notifications.
6. Attendance Policy
- A minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory for all courses to be eligible for examination and certification.
- Students falling below the minimum attendance threshold may not be permitted to appear for examinations and may need to repeat the relevant period of training.
- Medical leave must be supported by a valid medical certificate and is subject to approval by the academy.
- Attendance records are maintained digitally and are final unless challenged within 7 days of the attendance report.
7. Hostel Rules
- Hostel accommodation is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to availability.
- Students residing in the hostel must follow all hostel rules including curfew timings, guest policies, and hygiene standards.
- The academy is not liable for loss of personal belongings in the hostel.
- Disciplinary action in the hostel is governed by the same code of conduct as the main campus.
- Hostel fees are separate from tuition fees and must be paid in advance.
8. Intellectual Property
All content on the SUNAV Maritime Academy website — including text, graphics, logos, images, audio/video clips, course materials, and training resources — is the intellectual property of SUNAV Maritime Academy and is protected under applicable Indian intellectual property laws. Unauthorized use, reproduction, or distribution of any content is strictly prohibited.
9. Website Use
- This website is provided "as is" for informational purposes. The academy makes no warranties regarding the accuracy, completeness, or currency of the information.
- You may not use the website for any unlawful purpose or in a way that may harm the academy's reputation.
- The academy reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the website without notice.
- Third-party links on our website are provided for convenience only. The academy does not endorse and is not responsible for third-party content.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SUNAV Maritime Academy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of our services or website, including but not limited to loss of earnings, loss of data, or injury. The total liability of the academy in any event shall not exceed the fees paid by the student for the relevant course.
11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Tuticorin (Thoothukudi), Tamil Nadu, India. Students are encouraged to resolve disputes through the academy's Grievance Redressal System before resorting to legal action.
